Three men were arrested on Wednesday in Putnam County, Florida, for stealing a 9-foot-tall chicken statue.
Darrin Luke Edwards, 19, James Joseph Smith, 18, and Tyler Lee Jones, 21, were each charged with a count of grand theft, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Edwards was also charged with Violation of Probation.
The owner of the statue said he was getting ready for work on Tuesday when he heard a commotion. He looked down the street and saw a pick up truck pulling his purple, 600-pound, aluminum chicken. One of the men was mounted on the chicken, riding it down the road. They were identified through eyewitness accounts and video surveillance.
The chicken, which is valued at $2,300, sustained "a broken leg, broken claw and there was extensive damage to one side," according to the release. Smith and Jones were each released from the Putnam County Jail on a $1,004 bond and Edwards is still being held in jail without bond.
