Mystery substance decomposed man's shoe

An unknown substance caused the sole of a shoe to slightly decompose. A man reported the incident at Brigg Police Station in northern Lincolnshire after he had stepped in something and his shoe started to erode.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: "This incident was called in by the police station in Brigg as the gentleman went into the station.

"He was concerned as he had rubber soled shoes on and one had started to erode after stepping in something. He didn’t know what he had stepped in or where.

"We sent an officer to the station who carried out tests but there was no residue or reaction or vapour, so it was simply unexplained as what the substance could have been." The incident took place just before 3.20pm on August 5 on Station Road/Albert Street in Brigg.
