One Nation woman withdraws from Australian election campaign following car crash interview

Stephanie Banister, 27, was running for the seat of Rankin in Queensland but One Nation leader Jim Savage told reporters on Saturday Ms Banister has decided to withdraw following the fallout from a TV interview.

The ultra-nationalist party have now dropped dropped Ms Banister as its candidate for the federal seat. "She's not ready," party founder Pauline Hanson said. On Wednesday evening, Ms Banister, showed a distinct lack of knowledge about religion and current affairs in an interview with Channel Seven.

She began the catastrophic interview by appearing to confuse the Qur'an and Halal food with "haram", which is an Islamic term for something forbidden by God. "Jews aren’t under haram. They have their own religion which follows Jesus Christ," Banister said.

She went on to explain her views on immigration saying: "I don’t oppose Islam as a country but I do feel their laws should not be welcome here in Australia." Ms Banister, who is facing criminal charges after allegedly placing anti-Muslim stickers such as "Halal food funds terrorism" on supermarket products, said her words had been taken out of context.

Maybe Lynton Crosby could give her a job.

If only this had happened to Palin. The world would have been a better place if only the Alaskans knew about her.

This woman's boss says she realised what she had said and then corrected herself, but the TV station edited that bit out. I don't know, these people come across as such idiots. Shame. I'm glad they dumped her instead of sticking up for her and saying that the lame stream media are to blame. Sarah Palin, I hope you watching this.

The difference is, the Republicans nominated Palin anyway for a position a heartbeat away from the presidency.
