Wallaby spotted in the Yorkshire Pennines

A bouncing wallaby has been making motorists jump, bounding along the leafy lanes of the Yorkshire Pennines.

The Australian exile was spotted outside the Pennine village of Slaithwaite, which is near Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

One driver who managed to snap a picture of the marsupial said: "I got the shock of my life. It was just there in the road. I kept sounding my horn but it wouldn't move. Eventually it just skipped off."

West Yorkshire Police said they have had no reports of wallaby-related road incidents in that area.

There have been stories about wallabies in the pennines for years. They were released by a zoo during WW2
