Dog found in water-filled ditch with head stuck in jar is saved

Trapped in a vlei, unable to see with its head stuck in a plastic jar, it seemed this dog’s fate was sealed. But on Wednesday, members of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA waded into shoulder-deep water to rescue the mutt.

Spokeswoman, Lamees Martin, said they had received reports a dog was stuck in the vlei near the Wallacedene water treatment plant, in Cape Town, South Africa.

In pouring rain, inspectors Clive Matthews and David Damon waded through water full of rubbish to pull the dog to safety.

“It was emaciated, in shock, freezing and starving,” said Martin. It also had a jar stuck on its head. “We suspect that he had been dumped and left for dead,” she said.
