Overgrown trees blamed for attracting teenage hooligans who defecate on cars

Overgrown trees in Billericay, Essex are being blamed for attracting "hooligans" who damage property and defecate on cars. Residents are sick of the unkempt trees in Davids Walk, with some claiming they have led to more criminal damage in the area by providing shade for groups to congregate under.

Steve Radford, 55, is fed up with the situation. His house backs on to the problem street, which is overrun with out-of-control saplings and unruly sycamores. He said: "The overgrown trees are inviting youngsters to congregate on the road as they feel they can't be seen.

"They park their cars up and play music at the back end of the street and they are shadowed by the trees. We have had a lot of criminal damage – it's a place where hooligans hang out. I think it's made worse by the trees, the youngsters hang around under them until 2am.

"My daughter won't park on the road anymore because she fears her car will get damaged. I have had wing mirrors pulled off and even had my car defecated on." Mr Radford said he has reported the tree problem to Essex County Council several times over the years, but is still waiting for action to be taken.

Place a sprinkler in the tree behind your house.
Turn tap on when required.

Whilst your suggestion is very admirable, in Britain there's a good chance you could be arrested for assault for such an action.

@Arbroath, really? You guys have so many human 'rights'.

The law is a strange, twisted thing in the UK, Brixter.

With regards to human rights, our current government are doing their best to remove most of them.

So why not get some neighbors together, with hedge trimmers and garden snips, and clean that area up?

Then you'd most likely have the local council on your back claiming it's against some health and safety by-law.

At that point, you use the hedge trimmers and garden snips on the local council.

These problems almost make my homeowners association look good.

I know a few people who live in Billericay. Apparently one did, years ago, spot someone sh*tting out of a tree, about four meters up. Maybe there's something in the water...
