Shoplifter collared by his dog abandoned outside store

A thief who left his dog behind after stealing from a supermarket was tracked down by police who found his name and address on his pet's collar.

William Cochrane, 28, managed to get away from staff at Asda in Inverness with an iPod and speakers that he had stolen for his birthday. However, he left his dog tied up outside the supermarket.

Appearing at Inverness Sheriff Court, Cochrane admitted two charges of dishonesty.

Cochrane, a drug addict, from Smithton, Inverness, has been ordered to undertake a drug treatment and testing order for the next two years.
