It started with a fart and ended with one man narrowly avoiding jail. Angelo Andreou was given a suspended prison sentence and fined $5000 in the Perth Magistrates Court in Australia on Monday after pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
He was at the Botanica Bar and Bistro in July last year when the victim, Shane Ball, accused one of Andreou's friends of passing wind. Mr Ball punched one of Andreou's friends and the brawl quickly escalated. The victim was on the ground when Andreou kicked him in the head.
Andreou was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for nine months. Andreou's lawyer Terry Dobson told reporters outside court that his client was glad it was over but not happy that he was the only one punished when Mr Ball started the brawl.
"The complainant hit one of Mr Andreou's friends to no reason," he said. "It was quite a savage, vicious punch." Mr Dobson said the victim should also have been charged with assault.
