Would-be thief beaten up by women at cash machine told victims to ‘get some manners’

A would-be thief got upset after he didn’t reckon on his victims fighting back as he tried to steal cash from two women withdrawing money from an ATM in south London. One of the women pushed him off his bike after the man attempted to grab the notes from the Barclays cash machine in Worcester Park.

He spat at them and told them to ‘get some manners’, said police, who are appealing for witnesses to the incident on Sunday, June 9 at around 7.15pm.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “The women, aged 25 and 27, were taking money out of the cash machine watched by a man on a bicycle immediately behind them. As the notes appeared from the machine, the cyclist lunged forward to grab the cash.

“But he hadn’t reckoned on the girls fighting him off and pushing him away. He then spat at one of the girls, who reacted by pulling him off his bike.” Police have released CCTV of the suspect, who is described as a white man, approximately 5ft 8ins tall, in a bid to track him down.
