Man who drove through closed gate thinking it was a strip club guilty of alcohol related charges

A man from Lafayette, Indiana, who drove through the closed front gate of a towing business thinking it was a strip club has been found guilty of alcohol and vehicle-related charges.

On Tuesday, a jury found 31-year-old Orrin Cody Johnson guilty of being a habitual traffic violator. He was also found guilty of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent or more and resisting law enforcement. His charges stem from a police investigation that began the on April 29.

At around 9pm that night, police were called to Final Notice Towing in Indiana regarding a sport utility vehicle that drove through the gate of the business’ secure lot. Employees told officers that the SUV did not slow down before approaching the gate. According to court documents, the driver, identified as Johnson, told an employee at the business that he thought he was at a strip club. Johnson also reportedly ran from officers after they arrived.

A blood test showed that Johnson had a blood-alcohol content of 0.195 percent, more than double Indiana's legal limit of 0.08 percent. His driving privileges were suspended for life in 2009 following convictions for drunken driving and being a habitual traffic offender. Johnson will return to court on Friday, when a hearing will be scheduled for additional charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and being a habitual substance offender.
