Café charges less for politeness

The owners of a café in the south of France have struck a blow for good old-fashioned politeness by charging extra for customers who forget their manners while ordering their coffee.

The Petite Syrah café in the Riviera city of Nice, have implemented a new pricing scheme.

“A coffee” will cost €7, while “a coffee please” is a little more affordable at €4.25.

The best option however, is “Hello, a coffee please,” which will only cost €1.40.

"Well that's Nice, isn't it."

You sir, (or madame), win the comments for today. That was funny.

The nice comment was good. This obviously didn't happen in Paris.

So, if I said, "Good morning, Sir/Ma'am, may I have a cup of coffee, if you please" in French, they would give me some money in addition to the coffee, I suppose.

This could be an indirect discrimination against foreigners who are not fluent in French language. I would never go to this cafe which does such a discrimination. Je pense que c'est ne pas bon idee. Je n'amie pas du tout une telle discrimination.

"Un café." Then, you notice the menu. "Um . . . Bonjour, un café, s'il vous plait." You end up getting two cups of coffee and paying €8.40.
