Couple thrilled after shame-faced thief returned their prized Santa along with a letter of apology

An Aberdeen couple left devastated when their prized Santa was stolen are delighted to have him back.

Kathy and Alistair Cowell were distraught when they were awoken in the early hours of Sunday morning to see part of their Christmas lights display being bundled into a stranger’s car.

The couple launched an appeal for information about the missing Santa earlier this week. And now the Santa has now been returned, along with a note of apology.

Grandmother-of-eight Kathy, 64, said: “I could not believe it – we are over the moon.” The Cowells’ Santa reappeared in the driveway of their home near Oldmeldrum with a note from the thief apologising for his “drunken mistake”.
