Cyclists stage mass 'die-in' protest outside Transport for London's headquarters

About 1,000 cyclists have staged a "die-in" protest in south-east London to call for the government to improve road safety in the city.

The vigil outside Transport for London's headquarters in Southwark follows the deaths of six cyclists killed in a two-week period.

Organisers are calling for 10% of each London borough's transport budget to be spent on cycling infrastructure.

No, problem. Just put a special tax on bicycles and parts as well as create a license with hefty fees all of which go to pay for the infrastructure.

As a cyclist who's recently been doing a few thousand miles a year, I still feel the road should be for cars. If I'm in a peloton we all go one behind the other to let cars pass us as easily as possible. I've been hit by buses a heck of a lot more than I've been hit by lorries, presumably the latter have a higher standard of training. Personally, I'd get rid of buses in a city but let the cars and lorries stay. Pedestraianisation and public transport has basically ruined the centre of Belfast and who knows how many other cities; if you don't want to buy a coffee or a mobile phone, just go to the hypermarkets on the ring road.
