Perky young ostrich spotted confidently gambolling down road near Tunbridge Wells

An ostrich was spotted between Rusthall and Speldhurst, northwest of Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Bemused motorists watched as the bird “confidently gambolled” past a row of about 20 stationary cars.

A witness from Rusthall said: “There was a queue of about 15 to 20 cars pulled over and I assumed it was a lorry coming down. Then I saw this young perky ostrich confidently gambolling down the road, with its funny gait. It came right up to our window and looked at us.”

He added: “I would not describe it as scared or distressed. When I got to the school drop-off everyone was saying ‘did you see the ostrich?’ It was like being in the outback mate, it was a dinkum Ostrich..!”

Tina Arnold from Speldhurst also saw the ostrich. She said: "It was definitely an ostrich. I know what an ostrich looks like, I just don't expect to see one in Speldhurst."
