Thief stole car, went on shopping spree using owner's credit card, then returned car

Police are searching for an unusual thief who they say stole a car, went on a shopping spree, and then returned the vehicle to the same parking spot. The victim, Jim Kemeny, says his keys and wallet were stolen last week from West Wash Park Fitness in Denver, Colorado where he works as a personal trainer.

When he went out to the gym's parking garage, he saw his Hyundai was gone and reported it to police. The thief then used the car to go on a shopping spree with Kemeny’s credit cards. “It was $484.15, and then he went to Subway. I guess he was a little hungry as well,” said Kemeny.

Kemeny’s car was always parked in spot 22 and when he got to work on Monday his stolen car was parked right in that exact spot. “It was parked right here and returned right here. The car was open, the keys in the middle of the seats. The battery was dead and it was out of fuel,” said Kemeny.

There was also a $75 parking ticket from Greenwood Village inside the car. The thief even left the business card of his parole officer behind making it much easier for police to track him down. Denver Police said they don’t recall a car thief ever voluntarily returning the car. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
