Couple's honeymoon got off to rough start when groom lost his wedding ring down toilet on plane

A couple's honeymoon got off to a rough start when the groom lost his wedding ring during a flight to Aruba. "I just didn't get used to wearing rings, and I felt like it was a little tight, so I went to the restroom on the aeroplane, and I started messing with it,"

Stephen Marcotte from Nashua, New Hampshire said. "I was able to get it off successfully, but what I didn't count on was it slipping out of my hands and going into the toilet." Even worse than losing his ring was telling his bride, Natalie. "I said, 'You know, that's the ring that we got married with, that's the ring that the priest blessed during the Mass of our wedding,' so I was very upset," Natalie Marcotte said.

The couple went to the JetBlue flight crew for help. "They immediately considered the bathroom a crime scene and sealed it off, much to the dismay of everyone else on the flight," Stephen Marcotte said. "But they attempted, each of them on several occasions, to retrieve the ring." The hunt for the ring required the use of gloves and putting hands into the toilet.

The co-pilot even checked a diagram of the lavatory to determine ways to retrieve the ring. "The efforts that JetBlue made were extraordinary," Stephen Marcotte said. The ring was never found, but the couple replaced it as soon as they returned from their honeymoon. They said they were grateful to the flight crew for their effort. Stephen Marcotte also promised not to lose his ring again.

This happened to us back in 1968. DH flew to meet me in LA. Arrived without his wedding ring. Soon got a phone call from TWA, they wouldn't talk to me, only DH. Afraid they might get him in trouble. But THEY FOUND THE RING, after searching through the waste tanks. Guess the plumbing was different back then. Just celebrated our 47th anniversary. Still have the ring.
