A 10-year-old dog is recovering at the Arizona Humane Society's Second Chance Animal Hospital after he was rescued from a Phoenix canal on Friday morning.
AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians (EAMTs) received a call from a good Samaritan who saw the yellow Labrador mix in the canal, according to spokeswoman Bretta Nelson. The person was not there when the EAMTs arrived.
Nelson said Andy Gallo called out to the dog, which let out a yowl and swam over. Gallo used a large pole with a rope on the end to pull the dog out of the water.

Nelson said the one-eyed dog was weak, tired and shivering. He is being cared for by AHS veterinarians. The dog is not microchipped and has no collar or identification. AHS is hoping that an owner will come forward.
