Woman's dog and TV stolen during first date returned to her

A Yorkshire Terrier and a flat screen Samsung television have been safely returned to a woman in Dover, New Jersey, who reported they were taken on Thursday night by a man during their first date.

At 3am on Saturday, the woman called the Dover Police Department to say the dog had been tied, by its leash, to the television and left in the front yard of her home. The Yorkie appears to be in good health.

The woman met the man, first known to her only as “Joel,” through an online dating website. She told police she believed “Joel” lives in Elizabeth. But police say they now know the man’s true identity. Charges could be filed in the incident, pending his cooperation in the case.

The woman told police that the man was at her house and she became occupied in another room, leaving him alone for a period of time. When she re-entered the room, the man was gone, along with her dog, valued at $4,000, and her television, valued at $3,000. The man is described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and drove a gold-coloured Mercedes.

Do people really go on dates, and even invite a guy into the house, without knowing their last name?

So it seems, Miss C.

I wondered about that also.
