Captain America arrested after texting teenage girl photos of his penis

A Universal Studios employee who worked in costume as Captain America sent sexually explicit photos and text messages to an underage girl he met at the Florida amusement park, according to police. Police arrested James Weldon Alton, 29, on Wednesday on a felony charge of transmitting harmful material to a minor. He was booked into the Orange County Jail, from which he was later released after posting bond.

According to an arrest affidavit, the 16-year-old girl met Alton several weeks ago at the Orlando park, where the teenage posed for a photo with the costumed worker. The girl later posted the photo online, where it was found by Alton, who “commented on the photo, and an online friendship began.” The girl told Maitland Police Department investigators that she initially exchanged texts with Alton “as friends,” but that their communication soon turned explicit.

Alton sent the teenager a photo of his penis, as well as texts about masturbation and “getting into her,” according to the police affidavit. In an April 18 text, the girl told Alton she was 16. A week later, “Mr. Alton sent photos of his penis” to the girl’s cell phone. Police began investigating Alton after being contacted by the girl’s father, who learned that his daughter was planning to meet with Alton after school lastweek. When confronted by her father, the girl admitted exchanging inappropriate text messages with Alton.

When police interviewed Alton, he acknowledged that he had talked with the girl about her being under 18, though he “chose to disregard this because at times he thought it was a joke or that it was all just merely an online flirtatious relationship.” Alton termed his decision to send the girl photos of his penis as “poor judgement on his part.” After being arrested, Alton “stated again he did not know what he was thinking when he sent the photos of his penis.” Alton also claimed not to know “what he was expecting to receive from sending the photos.” Following his arrest, Alton was initially suspended by Universal Studios before being fired. Alton had worked for the company since November 2010, and has also been employed as an actor by the Walt Disney Company.
