Flying sponge cake in face at garden open day taken with a pinch of salt

A female visitor got more than she bargained for at garden party in Wells, Somerset last Sunday.

The unsuspecting visitor at Stoberry House garden open day was hit in the face by a piece of Victoria sponge which had been catapulted through the air after a gust of wind flipped over a paper plate.

Stoberry House and Garden owner, Frances Young, said that the woman took the incident with a pinch of salt and saw the funny side.

Frances said: “It was so windy and this piece of sponge cake just flew into this woman’s face – luckily she was okay about it. At least it wasn’t chocolate ganache.”
