Murdered men shot each other dead

Police say the two victims of a double murder on a Toronto street in March shot each other dead. Jonathan Stefan Khan, 21, and Shawn Chestnut-Reddick, 22, both died of gunshot wounds at around 8:45pm on March 19.

The two men knew each other and were known to Toronto police, but met unintentionally that evening, Det. Shawn Mahoney said on Wednesday. The chance encounter turned into a physical fight, then each man intentionally shot the other multiple times at close range.



Both died of gunshot wounds in hospital - Mr. Khan had been shot seven times and Mr. Chestnut-Reddick was shot three times. “Mr. Chestnut-Reddick and Mr. Khan had a pre-existing conflict with one another,” Det. Mahoney said. “This may have sparked the shooting.” Police found one of the two firearms underneath Mr. Khan’s body.

Another person who had been walking with either Mr. Khan or Mr. Chestnut-Reddick took the other gun and fled the scene. Det. Mahoney said that person is the subject of a separate, ongoing investigation. He said “excellent witness participation” allowed the Toronto police’s homicide unit to quickly complete the investigation into the deaths of the two men.
