Police request assistance in locating hundreds of stolen plastic shopping baskets

Police in Spokane, Washington are asking for help to locate hundreds of stolen Walgreens shopping baskets. On two separate occasions in the last couple of months, two different Walgreens have been the victims of a bizarre burglary.

Sometime in April, the Walgreens in the 7900 block of North Division had a number of empty plastic merchandise baskets stolen. Then, on May 6th, 2014, the Walgreens at 12 E. Empire reported they too had the same plastic baskets stolen.

Although the first incident was not reported to police at the time, after the second incident happened, an employee at the Empire store told the officer this was not the first time this had occurred.

During the second incident, an enclosed area at the back of the store was broken into and approximately 300 of the empty baskets were stolen. They are blue in colour, marked with “Property of Walgreens”, and were empty at the time of the theft. Spokane police are asking anyone who has information about these crimes or who come across the totes to please call them.
