A man had to be rescued after getting trapped on a ledge of a waterway that runs through Sincil Bank in Lincoln on Friday.
The man had climbed down to rescue a hedgehog and then needed to be helped from the ledge.
A team of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue officers with one fire engine attended the scene.
The man placed the hedgehog in a firefighter's net before a ladder was set up so he could climb back onto the street.
Station Manager Dave Gilbert said: “On this occasion things turned out okay, but we would never advise the public to attempt to rescue an animal if it means putting themselves at risk.
“If you see an animal in distress, please ring the RSPCA and if needed they will contact us, and we’ll do our best to assist where we can.”
