However, the local council recently accidentally banned the practice and passed a new law setting fines of €100 to €300 for people who go naked or topless. But they are now saying that the whole thing was “a mistake” that will soon be rectified at a future council meeting.

The ban, according to Vera authorities, is all down to a “transcription mistake” which came after conservative Popular Party (PP) politicians in the town backed a local by-law which prohibits the practice with one exception, “item 6 in article 58”, a clause which doesn’t even exist.
“If we’ve made a mistake we’ll rectify, that’s that,” said Popular Party spokesperson Antonio Fernández. “It’s obvious we’re not going to shoot ourselves in the foot.” For now, the legislation has not gone into effect as it has yet to be published in the official provincial gazette.
