Man arrested after passing police officer while dragging stolen safe behind car

An man from Onslow County, North Carolina, is accused of breaking into a pharmacy, stealing a safe, and dragging it behind his car. He was arrested after passing a police officer.

The Swansboro Police Department said the alarms of Family Care Pharmacy were activated at about 5:30am on Tuesday. Investigators said 22-year-old Ryan Mullins, of Swansboro, smashed in a window at the pharmacy's drive-through to enter the building.

Mullins then tied a nylon rope around a 100-pound safe containing prescription drugs and drove about two miles with the safe dragging behind his vehicle, Swansboro Police said. By 7:30am a Swansboro police officer pulled out in front of Mullins and saw in his rear view mirror that there was something swinging behind Mullins’ vehicle.

Lady arrested after engaging in intimate act with lawn chairs then urinating and exposing bottom

A Washington woman who was wearing a short dress and no underwear is facing an indecent exposure charge after allegedly “humping” lawn chairs, exposing herself to a woman and two children, and urinating in public, according to police.

Sila Hans, 33, was arrested earlier this month by police officers responding to a report of “an intoxicated female exposing herself and urinating on the lawn” of a Seattle residence. A female witness told officers that Hans “had come onto her lawn and was ‘humping’ the lawn chairs,” according to a Seattle Police Department report.

The woman added that she and her two children, aged 15 and 11, watched Hans’s late-afternoon performance from a window in their home. After grinding on the lawn chairs, Hans allegedly “exposed her vagina,” and then “smacked” her genitals “with her hand multiple times.”

Additionally, the witnesses reported that Hans relieved herself on the lawn and “bent over and exposed her bottom.” Officers who confronted Hans reported that she was “extremely intoxicated” and “displaying erratic behaviour.” She was “wearing a short dress with no underwear,” noted Officer Nicolas Olsen, who arrested Hans for indecent exposure.

Snake resting comfortably after surgery to remove ceramic egg

A 5-foot, black rat snake is recovering after having surgery to remove a fake egg from its intestinal tract. The snake was allegedly looking for eggs in a chicken coop in Seward, Pennsylvania, when it accidentally ate a ceramic one instead.

People often use the fake, ceramic eggs in coops to encourage chickens to nest and lay eggs of their own. A Fish and Boat Commission volunteer saw the animal slithering around with a bulge in its stomach, and figured the snake ate something it shouldn’t have.

“The nice people that brought us the snake told us they noticed egg missing, so that’s most likely when the snake ingested it,” said wildlife rehabilitator Bree Bigelow. A veterinarian at the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center in Verona called in a specialist to perform the surgery, which is deemed to be high risk.

“They asked me if I thought the snake was going to pass the egg,” Bigelow said. “And I said no, probably not, you’ll probably want to bring it in.” The egg had made its way to the snake’s colon and had to had hours of surgery. The snake is out of surgery and is now resting comfortably, beginning its path to recovery. Black rat snakes are native to Pennsylvania, and are commonly found along the east coast. They survive on rodents, amphibians and small birds.

Police called to rescue women held hostage by ball of fury

Police officers were involved in a standoff with an enraged cat early on Tuesday morning after it allegedly trapped its owners in the bedroom of their home in Chula Vista, California.

According to Chula Vista police, a woman and her adult daughter called 911 at about 4am to report that they had barricaded themselves inside a bedroom of their home because their cat would not let them out.

They told emergency dispatchers that when they tried to exit the room, the cat became furious. Officers responded and tried coaxing the cat, named "Cuppy," by softly calling it, until it eventually walked out on its own. Cuppy has reportedly been the family pet for 14 years.

However, he’s unpredictable – especially when the neighbourhood stray cat stalks their yard. It had never escalated to a 911 call before. “He’s just a ball of fury I guess,” neighbour Karen Yarger said. Chula Vista police said animal control usually takes these calls, but there was a big delay overnight. Officers were in the area, and without high priority calls and were free to help.

Man arrested for hair removal cream attack on his sister

Police in India have arrested 23-year-old Santosh Kumar after his 27-year-old sister Danna was left bald when he poured hair removal cream on her head near their home in Kaval Byrasandra, a district in the northern city of Bangalore.

The 23-year-old had apparently promised his divorced taxi driver friend Suresh Kumar, 47, that he could marry his sister and was furious when she refused, and also then got a job in a local bar. He had waited for her outside the bar, and then attacked her by pouring the hair removal cream on her head and rubbing it in before running off.

She said: "I only realised what it was when I woke up the next day to find most of the hair in the centre of my head fallen out." In her complaint to police, she said that her brother had been working as a bartender himself in Mumbai but had returned home and since then had not had a proper job. She said that instead he had wanted to make easy money all the time. She added: "He told me I should not be working and I should marry his widower friend, a man who already has two children.

"He even tried to report me to police but they made it clear to him that I can marry who I want and work where I want. However he doesn't seem to have taken the message on board." Police confirmed that Kumar had been arrested and that they were awaiting the results of medical tests to find out what the chemical was that made young woman's hair fall out and whether the damage was permanent before deciding what to charge him with.

Three-legged rescue dog has become surrogate mother to kittens she found in ceiling at RSPCA

A rescue dog who had her leg amputated after being battered by children has become a surrogate mother to a litter of kittens. Meg, a cross-breed rescued by Rochdale’s RSPCA centre as a puppy back in 2008, turned doggy detective when she helped staff to find five young kittens in the ceiling of the animal centre in Lancashire.

Jean Spencer, centre manager, who adopted Meg after the ordeal, often takes the dog to work with her. Late last Wednesday evening, Jean noticed Meg was looking up at the animal centre roof and whimpering as if to indicate something was amiss. Knowing Meg was trying to tell her something, Jean started to investigate, and several hours later, after she and helpers made a huge hole in the building’s plasterboard ceiling, the five kittens were located and brought to safety.

Jean believes the centre is also caring for the kittens’ mum, as a female cat who has recently given birth was recently found in a cat trap left outside the centre to catch a different feline. But the suspected mother will not look after the babies, so centre staff and volunteers are working around the clock to feed them, with help from Meg. “It was a really unusual rescue,” said Jean, 51. “I know Meg and she was obviously worried about something in the ceiling so I thought I’d better have a look and it was a good thing I did.

“There was only a space in the ceiling cavity of about eight inches, so we had to make a big hole in the ceiling and work through the night to get them out. We think the kittens’ mum must have sneaked in through the roof to have them. Meg is really fond of the kittens,” added Jean. “She is really kind and gentle with them and is always licking them, it is very sweet to see.” Despite losing a leg, she has thrived under Jean’s care and is a friendly face to visitors to the centre.
