"It was unbelievable, but luckily I'm insured," Mr Tyler said. The thieves struck while Mr Tyler was being treated following an operation on his tonsils. "My parents came to see me on Friday evening and said, 'we've got some bad news. Your car's been dismantled'.
"They'd got to my house at about 4.30pm that afternoon and a neighbour pointed it out to them," he said. "The front's gone, the air con, the radiator, the locking nuts, front bonnet, electrical parts, the headlights and goodness knows what else."
His girlfriend called Bedfordshire Police who told her it was "quite common" and she should contact the insurance company. "I can't quite believe they didn't want to see the damage for themselves. Unbelievably, the tow company was able to drive my car away." Mr Tyler added.

My husband, along with a couple of friends, dismantled another friend's front end car as a joke. I think it's hilarious, but I wasn't the victim.
Why is she so surprised the police wouldn't come and look? This is obviously far too difficult for them. Tracing the thieves actually means doing something about crime and would involve all sorts of things that would hurt their brains - and think of all that paperwork! Anyway, they are too busy collecting speeding fines. Easy option every time.
It's not an uncommon crime and car manufacturers are entirely to blame. The sort of components that are damaged in minor collisions are ridiculously and needlessly expensive expensive. These massive markups make manufacturers money in two ways; firstly revenue from the enormous markups; and secondly from replacement vehicles after they are written off as a financial total loss due to minor damage.
As a result there is a black market for parts like lights, bumpers, radiators and the like to replace parts damaged in such accidents when insurers would otherwise write them off.
Governments should investigate the markups on these parts.
It's hard to believe the police wouldn't even make a report. I think here (US), a person would have to have a police report in order to make an insurance claim.
Yes, without a police report most insurance companies here would balk.
The tow company drove the car away? Without a radiator? maybe onto a truck but any further would be crazy.
