Man spent six hours getting a tattoo of Jesus before running off without paying

A man with no regard for the eighth commandment spent six hours getting a tattoo of Jesus, before running off without paying. A tattooist at RedINC in Luton, Bedfordshire was stunned when the ‘customer’ claimed he had already paid another member of staff for the work and then used the confusion to skip out on a £250 bill. CCTV footage seems to show that an hour before that the man took advantage of the tattooist locking up a back door to steal £1,000 from the front counter, which he stuffed into his jeans before sitting down to get his artwork finished.



The man already had a tattoo of praying hands on his other arm, which was inscribed with ‘Only God can judge me’. RedINC owner Joanne Baum said: “The irony is that he has clearly decided to embrace Christianity and the major ethos is ‘Thou shalt not steal’.” She claimed: “He planned the theft from us and he completely planned not to pay for the tattoo. To have someone sit there for six hours talking about their life intimately and then do this is unbelievable. He was there chatting about his wife and daughter, it is not acceptable.”

The man originally went into RedINC two weeks ago to book the appointment, which was discounted from £420 to £250. He arrived at the appointment at 1pm last Monday. Around five hours later he was left alone in the parlour with the tattooist, who briefly stopped the work to lock a back door. It’s then CCTV shows he went briefly behind the counter, Workers later found up to £1,000 had gone missing. Once the tattoo was finished an hour later he claimed that he had already paid. As the tattooist called to confirm with a colleague the man quickly left the parlour.



Mrs Baum added: “It is a lot of hard, intense work and he stayed until 7.30pm doing it. It is very disrespectful for our fantastic tattoo artist. Would you like to go to work all day and not get paid for it? It was not just the six hours he had, there was also the drawing up and interview beforehand. All in all he had around ten hours of that artist’s time.” RedINC have been forced to change their security procedures following the incident. Bedfordshire Police has said that investigations are ongoing and described the offender as a man of Asian ethnicity, in his 20s, approximately 6 foot tall, and well built.
