World's first Cornish pasty drive-through to open

The world's first ever Cornish pasty drive-through will be opening to motorists in a matter of weeks. Portreath Bakery's drive-through in Pool, Cornwall, will also feature a 100-seat restaurant, a gluten-free bakery and a state-of-the-art baker-training facility.

Owner Marion Symonds, 50, said work was well under way on the facility. "The plans have been in the pipeline for 18 months and I am buzzing that it is nearing completion," she said. Drive-through customers will enter the premises at the main gate, before placing their order at one hatch and then moving onto the collection window.

Mrs Symonds says that the plans are "a dream come true". "I've worked in a bakery since I was 14 and was once told by a teacher that I'd never make a baker. Since forming Portreath Bakery our shops in Portreath and Lanner have got busier and busier so it seems like a natural step and I really want to give something back to the area.

"I hope we can train more bakers, not just from Portreath, but other bakeries as well to keep the industry going strong." The facility will open throughout the evening and will also sell freshly made bread, confectionery, doughnuts, overseas products, ice cream and milkshakes. The pasty drive-through will be opening at the end of June and Mrs Symonds plans to also be able to export pasties internationally from the site.

Sad to say I thought this was going to be where they had girls serving with pasties on their nipples.
