Naked man attacked his father with household items after being told to put some clothes on

A naked man who attacked his own father with household items when he told him to put some clothes on has been spared jail. Wayne Ingram, 40, set upon his father, first with a wooden coat hanger, then with a vacuum cleaner before pushing him into a large fish tank, causing the glass to shatter and leave a deep gash in his dad’s arm. Ingram, of Blackpool, had been drinking vodka and was naked apart from his socks when he launched the attack on his father shortly after noon on April 23.



Preston Crown Court heard Ingram had returned to the house carrying a number of items, including alcohol and had started shouting, ranting and banging – which was not out of character. But when he came downstairs naked and his father told him to put some clothes on an argument broke out. His dad, a man in his 60s with health problems, told his son: “I don’t care any more. Why don’t you just smash the house up?” Ingram lunged at his father punching him in the arm. He pushed him to the floor and picked up a wooden coat hanger and started attacking Mr Ingram with it. He then threw the vacuum cleaner at his father who managed to deflect it while still on the floor.



His dad got up and followed his son to the dining area, telling him to calm down but Ingram turned and pushed him towards a large glass fish tank. As the contents of the fish tank spilled out a large shard of glass cut into the victim’s arm causing a deep wound. His attacker returned upstairs but when he tried to use his mobile phone to call for assistance his vision started to blur and he felt like he would faint. He went outside to shout to neighbours who at first thought he was drunk after hearing the commotion inside the house and seeing him staggering around the front garden.



However they realised he was injured when he fell to the ground, and called for emergency services. The court heard Ingram has not been in court before but struggles with substance misuse problems. He felt remorseful about what he had done to his father and has since secured his own private rented accommodation. He pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding. Recorder Sally Hatfield, sentencing, said: “The neighbours probably saved his life as he lost a lot of blood. “I accept it is out of character for you to attack your father or anyone else in this way. However it was a serious offence and the injury was very severe.” She handed Ingram a 24-month sentence suspended for two years and told him to pay £1,000 legal costs.
