Separated from her family and trapped in a well, a six-year-old elephant in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, south India, found herself in a fix on Tuesday.
But determined locals and forest rangers launched a major operation to save the young elephant. With an earthmover, efforts went on for five hours to save her.
Resilient as ever, even after the hours-long ordeal, the elephant met her rescuers half-way and with her trunk, helped clear the earth in front of the 15-feet-deep pit.

Cheers rang out among the spectators as she finally managed to climb her way out of the pit and went into the jungle.
Forest officials then tracked the elephant and made sure that she was reunited with her family.

How many abandoned wells does India have? This seems to happen with disturbing regularity. I expect in due course the wells just get filled in, full of elephant corpses.
Heh heh, yes there do appear to be a surfeit of abandoned wells in India.
