A mother hopes a freak accident that saw a 10-year-old suffer a serious arm injury will serve as a warning to others.
Kerry Chamberlain's daughter Tiegan was riding along Hearthcote Road, in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, when she hit a small hole in the pavement and was thrown from the scooter she was riding.
The result of the incident was a double break in one arm that nurses described as 'one of the worst' they had ever seen.
Now council chiefs are investigating the issue after Mrs Chamberlain raised her concerns with them.
The 37-year-old, of Swadlincote, said: "It was awful. I let her go to the nearby shops on her scooter sometimes.
It is only a small hole in the pavement but it was enough to tip her off her scooter.
The nurses at the hospital said it was one of the worst breaks they had ever seen. It (her arm) was broken in two places and such a mess. She's had to have an operation to straighten the arm, and it's going to be a long recovery."
Now Mrs Chamberlain is calling for action to ensure there is no repeat of the incident.
She has been in contact with South Derbyshire District Council, the authority with responsibility for the path where the incident took this.
Mrs Chamberlain said: "It could have happened to anyone, it could have been an old lady walking along. I just want to see it fixed.
It's only a small hole but it needs repairing to ensure this does not happen again to anyone else."
She also hopes the incident serves as a warning for people, especially the young and elderly, that might use scooters, bikes or motorised vehicles in and around the area. Tiegan now faces a long period of rest and then physiotherapy as she recovers from her injury.
A South Derbyshire District Council spokesman confirmed the authority was aware of the incident.
He said: "We have been informed of an incident and we are investigating it."

Good lord, Woman - your daughter fell off her scooter and broke her arm: Get over it. It probably happens dozens of times around the country every day. She's a child, for heaven's sake - that's what kids do! At least she's outside getting exercise and not staring at the telly or computer. My daughter was doing cartwheels on our lawn and broke her arm: snapped both both bones clean through - looked like she had an extra wrist. What are they supposed to do - ban cartwheels and lawns?
And if she had been on a bicycle with it's larger circumference wheels, she would have not even have felt the hole in the road. The scooter is to blame here.
My children had numerous accidents on their scooters until I got wise and banned the bloody things.
A wheel 65mm in diameter is extremely prone to abrupt stoppages when presented with any anomaly which is greater than 6mm.
Is you are old school, 65mm is about the same as maybe 3 inchisses, 6 mm is less then an innccch by lots.
It is nearly 2016, when are you lot going to go metric ?
