Suspended sentence for man filmed pushing angler into lake

A man who shoved a fisherman into Swanswell Pool in Hillfields, Coventry, has been given a suspended prison sentence.





Brendan Cleary was filmed pushing the unknown angler into the lake on September 19. Footage of the attack was then shared on YouTube and Facebook.





Cleary, aged 45, of Spon End, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage and was sentenced at Coventry Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He was jailed for a total of 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months and oordered to pay £150 compensation. Police are still searching for a second man in connection with the incident.

I love websites like Neatorama and nothing to do with arbroath, but when you play videos like this where someone his hurt for other peoples enjoyment, it's like the person is being attacked again and again. It should be against the law for your privacy to be invaded. No one should have the right to take a video or a picture then post it to their twitter or facebook or youtube without your permission. And the video should be removed. I wouldn't have bothered with the police, I would have physically attacked him right there and then. Didn't watch it by the way. Now let's see how many people get upset.
