Child abduction scare was prompted by an elderly man looking for his hat

Police in Bloomington, Minnesota, have identified the suspect in an attempted child abduction as an elderly man who was looking for his lost hat.

Parents were warned of a potential kidnapping attempt after an elementary student was approached by a man near a bus stop on Wednesday afternoon.

The school district responded by notifying parents and guardians of the incident, describing it as an attempted abduction. Police later determined that the man, who lives nearby, had been out walking earlier in the day and misplaced his hat.

He drove the same route asking residents, including the child leaving the bus stop, if they’d seen it. When contacted by police, the man was apologetic and said he understood the concern he caused. He will not face any charges.

And I thought the guy in the earlier post growing pot in a storage unit had an overblown paranoid reaction.

Poor man. He has NOTHING to apologize for and *he* didn't cause concern. Fearful, hyper-cautious officials did.
