The octogenarian was sitting on a bench in Alicante, Spain, with his wife on Wednesday morning when the woman landed on top of him, having fallen from the balcony above.
A spokesman for Alicante's city council could not give further details because the case is being handled by the national police. The woman, 48, is believed to have been attempting to commit suicide.
Neighbours said she suffered from depression. The woman was taken to hospital, suffering from serious injuries, though she is in stable condition. The man's wife was also taken to hospital, suffering from shock.
