Residents perturbed by demon face in tree trunk
A couple in Prince Frederick in Calvert County, Maryland, say what was left behind after a tree fell in their yard during last week's snow storm is creeping them out.
The couple say the storm knocked a branch off their tree, and tree trimmers came to cut the rest of the broken limb down. When they did, this is what was revealed in the tree trunk.
The residents and neighbours insist the image was not created or altered. To many, it looks like the image of a man's face with sunglasses, and a smirk on his face. Some have see a part in his hair, and a beard.
Others have said it looks like a demon. That includes the owners of the property. They call it a "tree demon," and say it's actually scaring them. "It's scary," said one neighbour. "When I leave for work in the morning, it looks like the face is glowing."

Search for man who rode motorcycle through shopping mall
A video has been posted online showing a man on a motorcycle driving through a mall in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
The video was taken on Feb. 20 at around 1:50pm and features footage from RCMP’s Air One and security camera footage inside the mall. The video was being used by the RCMP as a training video when it was unintentionally released to the public.
The video shows the motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic before entering the Guildford Mall at the Walmart. “First of all I want to explain that the video was a compilation that we put together, the police did, of air services, Surrey RCMP video and Guildford Mall video for evidence in an investigation,” said Sgt. Dale Carr with the Surrey RCMP.

“It was inadvertently posted to a public site, when it was meant to go on a private site, and we’re looking into how that happened and we want to take steps to ensure that doesn’t happen again.” Carr said when the man was in the mall, two officers were chasing him to try to stop him. “We’re really happy no one got hurt,” said Peggy Howard, general manager of the Guildford Mall. She said the mall is not involved with the investigation.

The man riding the motorcycle has not been caught. “Ultimately the motorcycle was dumped, the individual got away and we’re still looking for who that is,” said Carr. They do have the motorcycle in their possession. “I’ve been working in police work for 28 years and I’ve never seen a time where we were in pursuit of a motorcycle and it entered a mall, exited a mall, and ultimately we’re still looking for the driver,” said Carr. “Never happened.”

Rogue owl caught after year-long reign of terror in city
A rogue owl that has terrorised a northern Dutch city for the past year, forcing citizens to arm themselves with umbrellas at night, has been caught, officials have announced.
Dubbed the “terror owl” by residents of Purmerend, north of Amsterdam, the aggressive European eagle owl is suspected of more than 50 attacks on humans, swooping silently from above and leaving many of its victims bloody and bruised.
“The animal was trapped by a falconer today,” the Purmerend city council said on Friday evening. “It’s in good health and is currently being kept in a temporary facility awaiting a transfer once a proper permanent home has been found,” it added. The large owl is suspected of a spate of mysterious attacks on citizens over the last year, prompting the city to advise evening strollers to arm themselves with umbrellas for protection against aerial assaults.
“The attacks were getting heavier,” the city said, adding: “Many people were afraid to go out of their homes.” As the owl is a protected animal, the city had to get special permission to trap the creature. Once that was granted, a falconer set out on a bird-hunt. In one of the many assaults, two members of a local athletics clubs were attacked last month, with one runner requiring stitches for six head wounds caused by the nocturnal bird of prey’s talons.

Owl experts have said the bird’s behaviour was unusual, meaning it was either raised in captivity and associated humans with food, or had heightened hormone levels because of the start of the breeding season. The European eagle owl is one of the largest owl species, with a wingspan of up to 1.8 metres (almost six feet) and weighing up to 3kg. City council member Mario Hegger said he had mixed feelings about the owl’s capture. “On the one hand, you would of course rather leave such a magnificent beast alone,” he said. “But on the other hand, the situation could not continue. We had to do something.”

Police seek men who assaulted man because he wouldn't let them try on his top hat
A 54-year-old man waiting at Catford Bridge station in south east London was assaulted by three men because he wouldn't let them try on his top hat.

Police want to trace three men over the incident, which happened just after 10pm on February 28. According to officers, a trio approached the man on the Catford Bridge platform and asked if they could try his hat on.
He refused and boarded a train to Charing Cross, followed by the men. On the train, one of the men approached the victim again before he was assaulted, suffering facial injuries, and had his hat stolen.
Investigating officer Stephen Allen said: "I am keen to speak to the men in the CCTV images as they may hold vital information to my investigation and I urge them to come forward."

Parents outraged after headteacher pretended to phone God about naughty children
The headmistress of St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School in Devizes, Wiltshire, has been accused of making children lie face down on the floor while she pretended to ring God on her mobile phone to say they have been naughty.
Parents say they were outraged that head Sheila Jones humiliated their children and have written to Ofsted and the school governors.
Ofsted has asked Wiltshire Council's safeguarding team to look into a number of complaints made by parents.

Tammy Brimble, whose son Cyrus, 11, was one of those who received the punishment in the prayer room at the school, said: "I don't think this was at all appropriate. We are not Roman Catholics but it was still distressing for my child for her to call on God like that. I didn't find out about it until we got home. Cyrus was very quiet and I could tell something was bothering him. When he told me what had happened to him and three other boys I was upset about the treatment but I wanted to find out why she did it.
"He didn't think he had done anything wrong so I tried to speak to Mrs Jones about it but she refused to talk to me." She said she made a number of attempts to speak to the head but eventually wrote a letter of complaint and later complained to the governors and Ofsted. Another parent Alexandra Jones, said: "All the children were whispering about something and then it came out that Sheila had made some of them lie face down in the prayer room while she pretended to ring God on her mobile phone." She has also made an official complaint to Ofsted about the head.

Colette Culligan, chairman of the governors, said: “The governors of St Joseph’s Primary School are aware of an allegation against one of the teaching staff. In order to follow due process, all enquiries regarding this issue need to be directed to Wiltshire Council. This is to ensure that any investigation currently being conducted is not unduly influenced.” A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “Once we have received the letter from Ofsted we will look into any concerns raised.”
