Saint Bernard rescued by firefighters after falling into icy lake

Firefighters in Virginia rescued a dog that fell through ice on a lake on Friday. Rescuers were dispatched to Woodglen Lake in Fairfax, Virginia, after a family reported their Saint Bernard had fallen through the partially frozen water.

The family were reportedly snow tubing down a hill heading towards the lake when the dog walked out and fell through the ice. The dog was about 30 feet away from shore when firefighters began rescue efforts.

"At the time of rescue the temperature was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 8 degrees and blowing snow," according to a statement from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

The dog was pulled from the lake and placed in an ambulance for drying and warming. After rewarming the dog appeared healthy and in no distress. The Saint Bernard was reunited with its family after about 30 minutes.
