Students at Ethan Chase Middle School in Menifee, California, were encouraged to wear Disney costumes for spirit day on Thursday.
Austin Lacey, 13, chose to dress as Elsa from the movie "Frozen."
The eighth-grader said that his classmates loved the idea and asked him to pose for selfies.
But the school principal apparently felt it was inappropriate and told him to take off the costume.
A statement from Romoland School District Superintendent Dr. Julie Vitale read in part:
"This action was taken in accordance with district policies.
"At no time was there an indication that the student was expressing any particular message. The Principal's action was based upon the need to stop a general disruption to the school environment," Vitale stated.

Crap's sake. It was a freaking COSTUME. Perhaps someone needs a dictionary stuffed up a dark place.
These sorts of stories bring out the non-diplomat in me. }:(

I'm with you, Lurker. Don't they have a switch gender day, anymore? I'm trying to figure out how it was inappropriate.
But if a girl dressed as Aladdin or Tarzan or whatever, that would be okay, right? Because girls can aspire to be boys but never, ever the other way around.
And on a much more superficial note, what the crap's wrong with wearing a DRESS? If girls can wear pants, boys should be able to wear skirts! Seriously, LET IT GO!
The junior high where I taught in the late 80s and early 90s had a no shorts policy. The guys got together, and a whole bunch of them showed up wearing skirts. They said if it was OK for the girls to wear short skirts in hot weather, it should be OK for them, too. The principal had a cow, but found out the boys' parents supported them. She caved, and Bermuda-length shorts were permitted.
If you don't want students in costume, don't have a costume day.
Amy, I think if a girl dressed as Tarzan, they might have a problem with that. He only wears a loincloth.
