Man in custody after naked person wielding a pitchfork allegedly crashed motorbike and car

A man is in police custody following a series of incidents across Plymouth, Devon, which allegedly saw a naked man brandishing a pitchfork and two vehicle crashes in close succession.

A 26-year-old man from Plymouth was later taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment before being placed in Charles Cross police station custody suite where he is awaiting questioning following the series of events on Monday afternoon. The emergency services were initially alerted to a number of 999 calls from members of the public made between 2pm and 2.15pm.

Motorists in Ponsonby Road reported seeing a naked man running down the street while wielding a pitchfork. A short while later members of the public contacted police saying a motorcyclist on a red Ducati had been involved in a crash with a blue Aixam with the biker fleeing the scene despite injuring themselves. One eyewitness said they heard loud crash near his house, where he said he saw a man riding a motorcycle slam into the rear of a car before making off up the street.

Onlookers then dialled 999, telling police a red Renault Megane had gone missing from near the crash scene. Minutes later, police were alerted to a two-car crash nearby involving a red Renault Megane. A police spokesman confirmed a red Renault had overturned in the collision, which also involved a Ford Focus. All three emergency services attended the scene and one person was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries. The man was later arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and dangerous driving.
