Prison inmate who escaped during hospital visit found hiding in a dishwasher

Jasper County law enforcement in Texas say a man accused of escaping from custody was found in a dishwasher at his girlfriend's apartment on Wednesday morning. Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Glenn Blank said they found Wesley Evans, 20, in the dishwasher after searching the Timbers Apartments a second time.

"I've heard of them being found in the refrigerator, but I've never heard of them being in the dishwasher," Blank said. Several law enforcement agencies assisted the sheriff's office in the search for Evans. Blank said Walmart surveillance showed Evans running in the woods behind the store on Tuesday.

A special K9 was brought in from Vernon Parish and led officers to the nearby apartment complex, where Evans''' girlfriend currently lives. The apartment was searched to no avail. On Wednesday, they received an anonymous tip and found him in the dishwasher at around 10am, Blank said. "That's pretty hard for a man that size to get in," Timbers Apartment owner Terry Tootle said.

"He's about six-feet-tall and slender in build. I imagine he must have taken the racks out to fit in there." Blank said Evans still had on handcuffs, but the chain link was broken. Evans is accused of escaping custody on Tuesday while he was at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, getting an x-ray. Blank said they are investigating whether or not to file criminal charges against Evans' girlfriend.
