Members of the Algerian Civil Defence in Oran province attempted to rescue a cat stuck up what appears to be a pylon, but the high-wiring cat had other ideas.
How it found itself stuck up there is unclear, but what is clear is that it thought it knew best about how to get down.
Showing scant regard for the Civil Defence member tasked with climbing a ladder to retrieve it, the cat began tightrope-walking across an electric wire to evade the human intervention.
Other quick-thinking Civil Defence members then grabbed a sheet to catch the cat, thereby beginning a tense standoff between animal and gravity.
After a stumble, the cat was left hanging precariously from the wire, but refusing to accept defeat.
Eventually someone grabbed a pole and prodded the cat until it fell off the cable, with its fall broken by the sheet, saving it from any serious harm.
