Elephant herd use pool to quench their thirst

A family visiting the Mabalingwe Nature Reserve in South Africa were baffled why the pool of the house they were staying in was often half empty in the mornings.

Then on this particular afternoon they found out. At the time, the region was in the grip of a severe drought and many of the local watering holes had dried up.

Wondering if treated pool water is harmful to their health. Maybe set up a tank to fill with untreated water outside the fence would be a good idea?
