Pub bans 'man bags' in bid to spruce the place up

A pub in Birmingham has banned men from carrying man bags. The Kerryman, an Irish bar in Digbeth, has informed customers of its decision with a notice displayed in its window.

As well as outlawing the male fashion accessory, the notice also bans caps, hoodies and tracksuits. It’s all down to a new, stricter, dress code to spruce the place up.

A spokeswoman for The Kerryman said that the move had been made for “image” reasons. “We don’t want to portray a certain image in The Kerryman,” she said.

“That’s why we have banned tracksuits, caps, hoodies and man bags. We’re cleaning up our dress code. It may prove to be unpopular with some customers who carry man bags but it is a decision we have decided to take.”
