Surf team's practice interrupted by a deer

Surfers at Salt Creek in Dana Point, Californa, had a surprise on Thursday morning when a deer rushed into the ocean during the Dana Hills surf team tryouts, barely missing a collision with one of the surfers taking a wave.

Sheri Crummer, a judge for the tryouts, said people were in disbelief when a deer suddenly ran past everyone on the sand and jolted into the water. “We have no idea where he came from,” Crummer said.

“That was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.” The deer was hopping over the rocks and then took off out to sea. “He kept going farther and farther; my heart just sank because he was really upset about something,” she said.

The surf team coach Tim Samson grabbed his longboard and paddled out about a 1/4 of a mile, and herded the deer back to shore where it ran off towards a hotel. “Everyone was blown away; no one has ever seen anything like this; this is insane,” Crummer added.
