Two-thirds of Britons 'do not know how to boil an egg'

It may be one of the first things we are taught to cook, but apparently two thirds of us can't remember how to boil an egg.

Researchers found that 69 per cent of those they questioned admitted they struggle to cook a soft-boiled egg correctly. Twenty-two per cent said they do not know how long it takes to boil an egg.

Even of those who claimed to know, 37 per cent still got it wrong, with almost one in ten reckoning an egg needs to be cooked for six minutes or more for a soft yolk, while 3 per cent cook it for a minute or less.

Experts from British Lion eggs say that once the egg has been brought to the boil, it should take between three and five minutes, depending on how soft you want the yolk to be.
