Customers at a bank in the Vale of Glamorgan found the branch closed after excrement was smeared over the front of the building.
Signs telling customers that the HSBC branch in Holton Road in Barry was closed for "health and safety reasons" were put up after the incident. HSBC confirmed that the branch was closed on Saturday.
A spokeswoman said they could not comment further because the incident was being investigated by police.
A student from Barry said she had gone to the bank on Saturday afternoon, but found it closed with the excrement smeared all over the front door.
She said: "It was horrible. It was all over the place and it really stank.
"There were signs up on the bank saying it was closed for health and safety reasons. Lots of people going past were talking about it. It was really awful," she said.
