Elderly woman stole collapsed man’s cash

An elderly woman was caught on CCTV pickpocketing £2,500 from a man who collapsed due to a brain tumour.

A retired 49-year-old from Eltham fell "like a sack of potatoes" in Nationwide Building Society, Eltham High Street, on December 17 last year as he went to cash money for his son's Christmas present.

CCTV pictures show that as the retired building engineer lay on the ground, a woman in glasses took his bag then edged away from the scene while paramedics resuscitated him.

Due to undergo a life-threatening operation today, the father now wants the elderly thief to hand herself in. He said: "Someone must know where she lives. I don't feel any anger, I don't wish her ill luck.

"I know there is a recession - a lot of people are struggling and some people can barely feed themselves. I just want her to return the money, the savings which my family live off."

Today, the victim will undergo a complex operation with a two per cent chance he will die. Doctors said there is a 20 per cent chance he will be left paralysed in his right arm and leg, while there remains a strong chance that he will be left mute.
