Woman ejected from pub for drinking while pregnant

A pregnant woman has spoken of her anger after being ordered out of a pub while having a quiet drink with friends. Caroline Williams, who is 23 weeks pregnant, said she initially felt embarrassed when she was told to leave after drinking a pint of lager.

'I've never felt so singled out and humiliated in my life. I don't drink a great deal even when not pregnant,' added the married 26-year-old.

The assistant manager 'was using her right to refuse me alcohol to exercise her own personal opinions and prejudices', she claimed. The incident happened on Saturday at the Sussex Cricketer in Hove, East Sussex.

Ms Williams was enjoying a pint on a rare night out at her local when a friend tried to buy her a half-pint. The friend was refused service and, when Ms Williams took a sip from another's glass instead, she was asked to leave.

It was done 'with the same force and attitude as required for drunk and disorderly customers or underage law-breakers', said the mother-to-be.

The pub has apologised, saying the assistant manager, while having good intentions, did not handle the issue 'in an appropriate manner'.
