Feline hotel is the cat’s whiskers

Going on holiday? Need to find someone to look after your cat? Welwyn Garden City has just the place. When Abi Purser was looking for a cattery for her beloved feline Norman to stay while she was on a cruise, she couldn’t find one suitable for his needs. “He was really old,” said Abi. “He was set in his routine and got really upset whenever we tried to take him to catteries.”

But the problem gave mum-of-three Abi an idea, which has now became a reality. Abi and her husband Matt opened the Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel this week, from their home in Longcroft Lane, Welwyn Garden City. With six heated, individually-themed suites, each with their own garden and exercise area, the hotel offers the very best in feline pampering.

“Guests” eat only from bone china plates, at the times they usually do at home, and owners can select a special “A La Cat” menu of fresh white fish, tuna, chicken liver balls and salmon, if they feel like indulging their moggy during their stay. Music is piped into the rooms during the day and a grooming service is (of course) available. Soon, you will even be able to check in on your cat while he or she is staying there via webcam.

“I just wanted to create a holiday resort for cats,” said Abi. “We decided to make their stay really stress free. Cats can get stressed really easily, they’re very insular and like their routine, they’re like kids in that way!”
