Squirrel wanted for damaging police cars

For the past few weeks, someone has been vandalising Oklahoma County Sheriff's Deputy vehicles. Evidence found: foot prints and chewed wiring. After further investigation, the "someone" they found was not exactly who they expected. "We have a vandalizing vermin on our hands. The squirrel, we believe, is coming from a tree that hangs over some of the patrol cars. What the squirrel has been doing is getting under the hood and chewing through wiring," Mark Myer said, spokesperson for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.


Not the actual perpetrator.

He said the suspect has done this before. "The first time they were able to repair the harness wire, which basically controls all electrical functions of the vehicle. Once it got repaired, we parked it in the same spot and the squirrel started chewing through the wiring again," Myer said. While the other vehicle is being repaired, the replacement car is showing signs the culprit has has been back, yet again.

"We saw him drop down from under the hood here. We opened up the hood, little squirrel foot prints all over the place, so we've got our suspect," Captain Harry Falter said. Now $700 later, deputies are looking for this perpetrator. He's about 5 to 7 inches tall, brown eyes, greyish brown hair, often seen in parks. He may be cute but the damage he's causing isn't pretty.

Investigators called animal control for back up; they set up a live trap. "Yesterday when they were putting the traps out, the squirrel was sitting in the tree just kind of looking down, kind of like a scene from Caddy Shack with the gopher," Myers said. Reports surfaced of people seeing those who seem to fit the description of the suspect but deputies have yet to catch him.
