Health and safety officer's shock as car ploughs into her living room

A health and safety officer narrowly escaped injury after a car ploughed through a wall and into her living room, landing near to where she had been sitting moments before. Andrea Barr had walked into the kitchen shortly before the silver car crashed through the wall of her home burying her favourite chair in rubble.

The Ford Mondeo veered off the road, smashing through wheelie bins and a fence before coming to rest in the lounge of the 55-year-old’s home in Coggleshall, near Colchester in Essex. The driver of the car, thought to be a man in his 70s, was checked over by paramedics at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

Speaking after her ordeal, grandmother Mrs Barr reportedly said: “I was very frightened. I just wanted to keep crying. I haven’t a clue how much it will cost to repair the house.'” The incident happened at around 5.45pm on Saturday when Mrs Barr, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, had been sitting in her massage chair.

Luckily, she got up to go to the kitchen shortly before the car smashed through the wall, sending debris flying across the living room, including bricks and a television set. The damage to the house has now made life difficult for Mrs Barr, who uses two walking sticks as she has restricted movement in her legs. A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
